eShield Attic Insulation in Greater Boston

Your Attic and Your Roof Work Together
Capital Construction Contracting has served Boston homeowners as a roofing and exterior contractor since 2005. If upstairs rooms run too hot in summer or stay cold in winter, or if ice dams keep forming even with a newer roof, eShield attic insulation addresses the part of the system most homeowners overlook. Getting the attic right means the roof performs better and living spaces stay comfortable year-round.
Why Check Your Attic?
Your roof protects your home from the outside, but your attic shapes how well that protection performs. In winter, rising heat escapes through thin insulation and warms the roof deck, which is how ice dams start. In summer, a sun-baked roof radiates heat down into the attic and pushes temperatures past what an HVAC system can keep up with.
Air leaks and moisture make both problems worse. Unsealed gaps around light fixtures, framing, and attic hatches let conditioned air escape and humid air in. When insulation is thin or uneven, or when a roof leak has compromised it, both the roof and the living space below suffer. eShield attic insulation is built to address these conditions.

What Is eShield Attic Insulation?
eShield is an attic energy retrofit system built to handle the different ways heat moves through a home. Conduction carries heat through solid materials, convection carries it through air, and radiation carries it across open space. Standard insulation slows conduction but doesn’t directly address radiant heat.
Depending on the attic and the home's heating and cooling needs, eShield may include a radiant barrier, blown-in insulation, or both. An evaluation will determine the right approach for your home.
How the eShield Radiant Barrier Addresses Attic Heat
In summer, the sun heats the roof deck and the underside radiates that heat down into the attic. The eShield radiant barrier is a reflective foil designed to intercept this radiant heat, reducing how much of it passes into the attic space below.
The radiant barrier cuts summer heat buildup and keeps upper-floor temperatures lower. It installs without itchy fibers and performs in both hot and cold climates. It may also reduce the conditions that contribute to ice dam formation.
Blown-In Attic Insulation and R-Value
Blown-in insulation is loose material that gets blown across your attic floor to fill it in evenly and slow the heat moving between your attic and the rooms below. R-value is simply the number that tells you how well it does that.
The higher the R-value, the better it resists heat moving through it. Older homes often fall short here, because insulation settles and flattens over the years, or a past roof leak leaves it damp and far less effective. Adding blown-in insulation brings the R-value back up.
Qualifying eShield blown-in installations may include warranty coverage on the installed R-value, subject to manufacturer terms. If the insulation ends up below the R-value you paid for, the attic is refilled at no charge, per the applicable certificate. That coverage requires installation by a certified installer.
Signs Your Attic May Need Better Insulation
Observable conditions that can point to attic problems include:
Upstairs rooms that are too hot in summer or too cold in winter
Heating or cooling bills that rise without a clear explanation
Ice dams forming along the roof edge
Snow that melts unevenly across the roof
Drafts or uneven temperatures throughout the home
Insulation that is thin, uneven, compressed, or damaged
Moisture, condensation, or a musty smell in the attic
Insulation affected by a roof leak
An HVAC system that runs continuously in extreme weather
These signs can overlap with roof and ventilation issues. Capital's evaluation looks at ventilation and air sealing as well as roof condition, not just insulation.
Our eShield Attic Insulation Process
Attic Evaluation
We’ll review your existing insulation depth and condition, attic access, ventilation, air leaks, and any moisture or roof-related damage. Both your attic configuration and your home's heating and cooling needs factor into our recommendation. No two attics are the same.
Recommendation
Based on the outcome of your evaluation, we’ll identify whether the right approach is a radiant barrier, blown-in insulation, air sealing, or a combination of these. We’ll explain the recommended scope clearly before any work begins.
Installation
Capital's factory-trained installers complete the work using the eShield system. Our project gallery shows completed installations across the region.
Final review
We’ll handle the cleanup and document the installation scope. We’ll also walk you through the applicable eShield warranty information so you understand your coverage.

Common Questions About eShield Attic Insulation
Standard insulation slows conductive heat transfer by resisting heat moving through solid materials and still air. eShield may include blown-in insulation, but its radiant barrier is designed to reflect radiant heat rather than slow it. Many attics benefit from both working together, especially in a climate like Greater Boston's with its extreme heating and cooling demands.
It can help when attic heat loss is a contributing factor. Ice dams form when warm air escapes into the attic, heats the roof deck, and melts the snow above, which then refreezes near the cold eaves. Better insulation and air sealing can reduce conditions that lead to ice dams, though insulation alone is not always the full answer when ventilation or air leakage is also a factor.
The best time is during a roof replacement, since the roof and attic function as a single system, and the attic is already open as part of the project. Handling the insulation then means you aren’t paying to revisit the same space later. That said, eShield attic insulation doesn’t require a new roof to make sense. It’s interior work, so it can go in on its own at almost any point in the year. Some homeowners schedule it ahead of summer or winter, when an under-insulated attic tends to show its problems most. If a roof project is already on your calendar, that’s simply the most convenient moment to take care of the attic, too.
Timing depends on attic size, access, existing conditions, and the scope of the recommended work. Because these variables vary widely from home to home, we don’t estimate a timeline until we have evaluated the attic.
eShield is designed to improve attic energy performance and may help reduce heating and cooling costs. Actual results depend on the home, the existing insulation baseline, HVAC performance, air leakage, and installation scope.
